This month we spin tracks from Loyle Carner, Tom Misch, Sade and Phonte
The Isle of Arran – Loyle Carner
I’m really digging this English Hip Hop mate. The Brit musician and actor has been punned as “sensitive and eloquent.” He’s soothing to listen to while still bumping your head. I went through his catalog and couldn’t find one back track of his. At only 23 years old, the mate has a promising future.
It Runs Through Me – Tom Misch feat. De La Soul
Here’s another England native. Tom is a singer, songwriter and producer. “Apparently, I have a sound , and people can hear it,” Tom Misch claims modestly in his Facebook bio. “I try so many genres that it’s hard sometimes to pinpoint. I guess my sound is uplifting, soulful, funky — and happy more than it is sad.”
And getting a Hip Hop nod from Hip Hop giants De La Soul isn’t that bad either.
Flowers of the Universe – Sade
My heart melted when I heard that Sade is back with new music. The track that appears in Spring blockbuster, A Wrinkle in Time, is the first song Sade has made in seven years. “I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway,” Ava DuVernay said in a tweet announcing the song. “She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget.”
Sweet You – Phonte
Full disclosure: I am listening to Phonte’s latest album No News is Good News as I type this article. 2018 has been constant with great Hip Hop offerings. Phonte’s album is ranking very close to the top of the list as the best of the year. Sweet You is defiantly my favourite track from the album.
